Installation, Fitting And Tips

Fitting and Tips

Always start your Optimizations with TourLock Pro counterweights first. Installing TourLock Pro weights is the quickest, easiest and most conclusive solution to creating instant and desired results for golfers of all levels. TourLock Pro golf club counterweights are available in 12 different weights ranging from 8-grams to 100-grams. This is the largest selection of weights available and allows you to fine tune your swing in subtle increments. Each player’s swing, experience, arm strength, and unique tendencies effect how counterweighting responds, and as a result, there is important value in the ability to carefully optimize clubs using a range of weight classes. Our counterweights are also protected by four separate patents with another seven patents pending - the benefits of TourLock counterweights as used by professionals on the PGA tour are only available from TourLock Golf.

Profiling Shot Characteristics for generalized TourLock Pro golf club counter weight.

Start testing with a 20 gram for swing clubs and a 60 gram for putters.

Use lighter TourLock Pro weight if:
  • Club feels too heavy
  • Ball hooks
  • High Trajectory
  • Too much inside to outside path
  • Blocking shots
Use a heavier TourLock Pro weight if:
  • Club head feels too heavy
  • Ball slices
  • Ball trajectory too low
  • Too quick
  • Topping
Use Opti-Vibe in woods irons and wedges when:
  • Loss of feel & awareness of club head occurs
  • Too high launch
  • Too much spin
  • Extreme hook
  • Extreme slice

TourLock Pro Selection Guide

Below is a generalized chart that can help you choose the best TourLock Pro weight for your skill level. For instance, if you have a low to mid handicap with an average swing speed, you would look in the RED areas to determine your best fit…a 16 gram weight would work best with your wedges. This chart was compiled from statistics we recorded from over 250,000 golfers who have used the TourLock Pro golf club counter weight system. Click on the image to enlarge.

Optimizing with TourLock Pro and Opti-Vibe Combination

Performance Fitting Technology – The ”Art of Optimization” MOI Placement - Optimal Dynamics – Total Optimization By John Johnson

Performance Fitting Technology

Keep in mind, when installing a combination of TourLock Pro and Opti-Vibe weights, total optimization is the goal. Performance Fitting Technology is the easiest, quickest and most conclusive way to finding total optimization of a golf club to match the individual using it. Performance Fitting Technology requires the basic fitting parameters (club aesthetics, lie, length, grip, shaft profiling etc), the difference is in the ability to alter the feel and performance of the club to best suit the individual swinging in ways that have been PGA Tour proven to work. This proven method is much easier for a clubfitter / individual to find the optimal performance of a club while at the same time creating a better sense of awareness of a sound repeatable swing or stroke.

Optimal Weight Ready (Starting point)

The first step is to modify the end of the grip with the TLP Grip Modifier. Now the grip will have a hole big enough to add weight into the shaft and cap off the hole with desired TLP counter weight. For Putters, start by placing a 50 gram OPTI-VIBE Weight @ 4 inches into the shaft using the Opti-Vibe Dual Tool and cap off the butt with a 12 gram TLP counter weight. For all other swinging clubs, start by placing a 20 gram Opti-Vibe Weight @ 5 inches into the shaft and cap off the butt with a 12 gram TLP counter weight. Now the club will be "Optimal Weight Ready” (OWR) allowing the clubfitter or individual the ideal starting point to ultimately optimize the club in a simple and conclusive fashion unlike never before.

The “Art of Optimization”

With club OWR, ask individual what he or she feels while holding and swinging the club. Golf club awareness is the key. This is when more or less weight can be dynamically altered for both internal weight and counter weight, even before hitting one shot or stroking one putt. This is based on FEEL and pertains to all clubs.

Before stroking one putt or hitting one shot, club should be comfortable for individual feel. At this time, the fine tuning* of the club can be optimized to the individual by incremental adjustments of the desired internal weight. This is tested and influenced with the aid of monitors, video and is also based off of ball/contact reaction. Both dynamic test results and scientific monitor data results will tell you what you need to know to achieve OWT. *Dynamically altering clubs static and balance weight affects individuals differently. In all cases, both dynamic and scientific testing will yield an optimal result of static and balance weight that matches the individual best. Incremental internal weight adjustments are very hard to feel but these minor alterations certainly affect contact, consistency and directional roll. Once peak optimization is found, the club now will be OPTIMIZED and you have achieved OWT…JJ

Dynamic Alterations for Putters, Woods & Irons

If club head feels too light you can:
  • Move the internal Opti-Vibe weight deeper into shaft
  • Use a heavier Opti-Vibe internal weight at 5 inches
  • Use a lighter TourLock Pro counter weight
  • Add head weight
If club head feels too heavy you can:
  • Move the internal Opti-Vibe weight closer to butt
  • Use lighter Opti-Vibe internal weight at 5 inches
  • Use heavier TourLock Pro counter weight
  • Remove head weight
If club feels too light you can:
  • Move the internal Opti-Vibe weight deeper into shaft
  • Use heavier Opti-Vibe internal weight at 5 inches
  • Use heavier TourLock Pro counter weight
  • Add head weight
If club feels too heavy you can:

  • Use lighter Opti-Vibe internal weight at 5 inches

Profiling Shot Characteristics for generalized Opti-Vibe placement & weight selection

Lower the Opti-Vibe weight or use a heavier Opti-Vibe weight for:
  • Higher Swing Speeds Hookers Higher Launch
  • Faster Transitions Chuckers High Spin
  • Stronger Players Heal Shots Shanks
Raise the Opti-Vibe weight or use a lighter Opti-Vibe weight for:
  • Slicers Slow Swing Speeds Over the Top Casters
  • Low Launch Pullers Inconsistent Contact Toppers
  • Weaker Swingers Low Spin Toe Shots
Use a TourLock Pro Counter Weight (8 to 30 grams) only when:
  • Opti-Vibe does not improve ball striking
  • Club is too long (very common) – 33%
  • Club is too heavy – 41%
  • Low launch – 78% (when struck correctly)
  • Slow swing speeds – 92%
  • Extreme slice or hook – 64%

Profiling ball roll and aim characteristics for generalized Opti-Vibe weight & placement for putters

Raise the Opti-Vibe counter weight or use lighter Opti-Vibe when:
  • Delofting putter (too much lag)
  • Pushing
  • Too head heavy
  • Having to help it
  • Putter too heavy
  • Too much inside to inside stroke
Lower the Opti-Vibe counter weight or use heavier Opti-Vibe when:
  • Adding loft
  • Pulling
  • Head too light
  • Putter too light
  • Too much outside to outside stroke
Add a TourLock Pro Counter Weight (40 to 100 grams) only when:
  • Club is too long
  • Club is too heavy
  • Inconsistent contact
